I hear our Heavenly Fathers the loudest and the strongest when I am experiencing art. I have dedicated a large portion of my life to creating and experiencing art because it is how I feel the spirit the strongest. Mostly through visual art, music and theatre.
I was raised in a family that greatly valued the work of classic artists such as DaVinci ,Gauguin, and Degas. Many a Saturday afternoon of my child hood was spent attending art museums. I would remember wondering how it was possible that a person could make something so beautiful and think that such talent can only be a gift from God. I have often thought that people are quiet in museums because they subconsciously know that they are in the presents of great work and a window in to the past. When I look at a great work of art I can't help but to imagine it creation and how the artist must have been moved to create it.
I have often found solace in beautiful music. Sometime the beautiful language of a well written song lyric can explain and describe a feeling or situation so well that I am moved to tears by its brilliance. I also enjoy watching musicians play their instruments together in a beautiful collaboration. Collaborating with a like minded artist is an immense blessing.
I have dedicated my entire professional and much of my personal life to the art of theatre. It is an art form I love so much it is necessary for my mental health and spiritual growth to be part of it everyday. I truly believe that Heavenly Father gave me theatre as a way to express my self. The moment when all the elements come together and the audience is watching and all aspects come together in the creation of storytelling is no less than a miracle.
In the end Art is about bringing beauty in to the world. When we create or experience art and participate in this beauty we are making the world a better place. That is how I hear Him. I hear Him in the strums of a guitar string, in the brush of a paint stroke and in the hush of a crowd..
