It's summer, which means naturally, we are going to be later and sleeping in a little later. In the past, that's been a hard thing for me. Me, being the thrive-on-a-schedule type, has struggled with the looseness that is summer. But this year it's different! This year I am able to more fully roll with the punches. If I don't do my scripture reading first thing in the morning, that's okay! I just find another time to do it. If I say my prayers at night instead of in the morning, I'm no longer falling asleep during them. My workouts? They can happen any time of day and I still have the motivation to do them. And honestly, I have corona to thank for this beautiful, liberating way of life!
I will say, when it comes to reading my scriptures and saying my prayers, I have been able to pinpoint WHY I have always enjoyed doing it in the morning. It's because it's quiet! So now, if I chose to do my scriptures at a later time, while I now know that's fine and it don's cause me stress, I also know that if I want to get the most out of it, I should find a quiet place! And once everyone is awake, that's not always super easy. Jaren's workout music loud and the boys are moving all sorts of things around. So I have found that heading back to my bedroom and closing the door works just as well during the middle of the day as sitting in the study works first thing in the morning.
This morning, as I sit in the study it's dark outside, and I can hear the rain hitting the roof. I love summer rain! It is beautiful in its own way. I love how the clouds erase all the shadows and how all the colors become exaggerated because they're wet. The grass and the leaves become a deeper green and the contrast to the brown of the bark, which is also darker, is so pretty! And not that Sunnyvale has any rivers, but when it rains, I love the sound the rushing water makes in the spots where it gathers in the streets and moves past rocks and trees. And mostly, in Texas, it's always a welcomed break from the heat.
I don't have much else to say today, other than I am grateful! It's looks and feels like a peaceful day!
