I have always loved the scripture Alma 34:26 that says “Ye must pour out your souls in your closets, and in your secret places, and in your wilderness.” It has so many meanings for me! Sometimes life really does feel like a wilderness- I don’t know which way to go and I can’t see very far because the trees (the trials, the frustrations, or the fears) block my view. It reminds me that I have to pray hard when I feel like I can’t- especially when I feel like I can’t! I’ve learned that I #HearHim the most when I’m honestly reaching out to Him when I’m struggling. The scripture also reminds me that I can hear Him better in specific places. I have found my own “secret places.” For me, those places are my closet and my barn. I slip away from everyone else and just spend a few minutes there. I pray, and then I just sit for a while. Sometimes answers come to the prayer I have just said. Sometimes I cry a little (or a lot) as I tell Heavenly Father what is on my mind. Sometime I am just so happy that I just thank Him! And He reminds me of even more of my blessings. Sometimes I just feel peace. The point is, to Hear Him, I seek Him. And I do it where I will be able to hear Him speak back. Finding my own sacred places has really helped me do that.
